Henrythenavigator & Marmalade both run |
|
IRISH trainer Aidan O'Brien
will run both both Henrythenavigator and Duke Of Marmalade in
the Breeders' Cup Classic (1m2f) at Santa Anita on Saturday October 25. There has to be a serious suspicion that both colts are on the downgrade after a very hard season. Henrythenavigator looked unbeatable until his last couple of runs when the 2000 Guineas winner was certainly well below par. While the Duke Of Marmalade looked woefully one-paced behind the brilliant mare Zarkava in the Arc de Triomphe. It was certainly not one of his better runs. However the Ballydoyle connections of both colts are always so eager to plunder the amazing prizemoney that is on offer at The Breeders Cup jamboree. However it all ended in disaster last year when their desire for money saw George Washington killed on a surface he had never race on before, in conditions that were barely raceable and Dylan Thomas was totally humiliated. Money is king. O'Brien is aware that he may be going to the well a few times to often. He said: "They have had really long, hard seasons. But we think they are still in great form." Maybe that last statement is a bit of wishful thinking by the Irish maestro. However he is merely the piper at Ballydoyle. It will certainly be an intriguing Class with Curlin also in the line-up on a surface that is uncertain to bring the best out in him. It may pay to look for a horse beyond the obvious front-runners in the Breeders Cup Class betting - perhaps an American horse with proven form at Santa Anita.
