Breeders Cup test |
|
There will be testing for steroid use for the first time ever at this year's Breeders Cup meeting and the betting is short that the move has given a few US trainers sleepless nights. The move will help the European horses who are not allowed to race on drugs, unlike their US Breeders Cup rivals. Horses can still be drugged up, but not beyond prescribed limits and there will be strong penalties for any animals tested over those limits. The new rules are in line with Californian racing regulations, though other states are more lenient and allow horses to be doped up to the eyeballs. All placed horses (i.e: in the first 4) will be tested as standard. There has been a lot of discussion about the influence of drugs in American horse racing especially after Richard Dutrow revealed that he regularly used steroids on Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown.
