Curlin lands Breeders Cup Classic 2007 as George Washington suffers fatal injury CURLIN destroyed his field at one end of the Breeders Cup Classic at Monmouth Park while at the other end of the field the enigmatic George Washington was being destroyed. Turf specialist George Washington was never travelling too well on the alien mud-splattered track. Trainer Aidan O'Brien's winner of the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in 2006 paid the ultimate price for his failure at stud. Instead of being safe and sound in his box, the four-year-old son of Danehill was rushed back into training after firing blanks. Connections had nothing to lose with him anymore (as they told us time and again) and George Washington, who had been Champion Three Year Old Miler, ultimately paid the price in the filthy mud at Monmouth Park. With stud duties out of the question, there would have been no thought of saving the hapless George Washington and his billionaire connections had him destroyed on the track. The euphemistic term for this euthanasia is 'humanely destroyed,' we guess as opposed to being inhumanely destroyed.. As O'Brien's wife, Ann-Marie, was in tears at George Washington's demise, there was joy for Curlin's connections as the colt ran away with the $5m race. Hard Spun was a respectful second with 7-2 favorite Street Sense running disappointingly. After

nobody had predicted it would get even worse in this, the very next race, but for
European spectators The Breeders Cup Classic 2007 was an ugly race at an
ugly track on a filthy day. Latest Breeders Cup Betting, News & Results
