Lame Scorpion could miss Melbourne Cup

Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien, who had a nightmare Breeders Cup, is set to miss the 2007 Melbourne Cup (on Tuesday November 6) now with Scorpion.

The multiple Group 1 winner had a routine gallop on the track and then pulled up lame. The 2005 St Leger winner now looks likely to miss the richest handicap horserace in the world at Flemington racecourse.

Scorpion was topweight and an 11-1 chance to win the Melbourne Cup. The three-time Group 1 winner landed this season's Coronation Cup at Epsom.

Scorpion had worked with stablemate Mahler where he is stabled at Sandown racecourse but afterwards was found to be sore.

Connections have ordered X-rays to establish if Scorpion will be able to take his place in The $5m Melbourne Cup. Scorpion remains a 12/1 shot with Bet365 online bookmaker.
