The result of The Melbourne Cup 2007, run at Flemington racetrack, Australia on Tuesday November 6, was: 1. Efficient 20/1 Melbourne Cup 2007 race report Local Australian hero Efficient came late, wide and fast to deny Purple Moon in the Melbourne Cup 2007. Efficient took the race at betting odds of 20/1 and could be backed even bigger with some online betting sportsbooks. It was Purple Moon (trained by Luca Cumani in Newmarket, UK) and Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien’s Mahler who staked their claim for the race before the home bend. But with a hundred metres to go Efficient got into his stride to deny a European victory on the line. Just like last year, Zipping took fourth place. The favourite Master O'Reilly was a disappointing eighth. Another of the European challenge, Amanda Perrett's Tungsten Strike, finished last while the three late non-runners were Gallic, Maybe Better and The Fuzz. It was a first Melbourne Cup victory for jockey Michael Rodd and trainer Graeme Rogerson. It was third Cup victory for the multi-millionaire owner Lloyd Williams. The first two were Just A Dash (1981) and What A Nuisance (1985). Williams watched the race on TV at home.A racetrack crowd of 102,411 watched Efficient become the only racehorse, in the seventy seven years since Phar Lap, to land the Victoria Derby and then go on to win the Melbourne Cup the next year.
